5.0 out of 5 stars MSI M16: A great computer with a few manageable drawbacks
By Adam Nix
Let's get this out of the way first - the cons:The MSI M16 is a bulky, heavy beast of a computer. Its touchpad sucks, its battery life is mediocre, and the black plastic shell attracts fingerprints like a shower drain gathers hair. It would also be great if it had a MicroSD card slot, but I acknowledge that's what adapters are for.The pros:Everything else about the laptop is great. Performance is super smooth, not very loud or hot even when playing modern graphics games like Baldur's Gate 3 or Red Dead Redemption. Works well for 3D design, word processing, etc. as well. Speakers are good, and the cooling hex design on the underside is pretty cool looking. 3 regular USB ports, a USB-C port, HDMI, Ethernet, and a headphone jack cover pretty much all the bases in terms of inputs/outputs. If you can get it on sale, it's well worth the $1100 sale price. I wouldn't pay $1.5k or more for it, but it's a great computer at the price point.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really like it!
By Sebastian Petzing
I got the model with the i7-13620H, RTX 4060, 1TB SSD, and 32gb RAMPros: fast as heck, lightweight, beautiful display with a taller screen (great for editing portrait-orientation photos), good value, lots of ports, decent battery life (considering capability and weight), 10-key included, and a simple, understated design without a rainbow keyboardCons: no SD slot on a "creator" series laptop, confusing 10-key layout with non-dedicated home/end/pg up/pg down buttons.Overall, I really like this laptop and I'm more than happy to give it 5 stars. I use a USB-C to SD card adapter which I can easily swap between my phone and computer, so that's not a huge hassle. I mostly use this laptop for lightroom and photoshop, and it works great! However, why can't I get an exact replacement charger on Amazon or from MSI's website? I'd like a backup and I don't want to risk a third-party AC adapter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What specific advantages does the AMD Ryzen AI 9-365 processor provide for AI tasks?
The AMD Ryzen AI 9-365 processor includes a dedicated AI engine (NPU) built into the chip, which is designed to accelerate performance for generative AI tools and digital assistants directly on the laptop, without relying solely on the cloud or the main GPU.
What is the actual resolution and aspect ratio of the 16-inch MiniLED display?
The display has a 4K UHD+ resolution of 3840 x 2400 pixels, which is a 16:10 aspect ratio. This provides more vertical screen space compared to standard 16:9 4K displays and is paired with a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother motion.
Is the 32GB of RAM soldered to the motherboard, and what type is it?
The RAM is 32 GB of LPDDR5x memory. The 'LP' in LPDDR5x stands for Low Power and this type of memory is typically soldered onto the motherboard, meaning it is not user-upgradeable after purchase.
Does this laptop support the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard, and what are the real-world benefits?
Yes, it includes Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) connectivity. Compared to older Wi-Fi 6/6E, Wi-Fi 7 offers significantly higher potential speeds, lower latency, and improved performance in congested wireless environments, which can benefit high-quality video streaming and large file transfers.
What is the physical size and weight of this laptop for portability?
The laptop measures 14 x 10.24 x 0.79 inches and weighs 4.63 pounds. This makes it relatively portable for a 16-inch laptop with this level of performance and a high-resolution MiniLED display.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for everyday use and casual gaming

As someone who enjoys gaming and often juggles multiple tasks, this laptop has been a great fit for my needs. The large Full screen really stands out. it makes watching videos and playing games feel immersive and smooth. Also, impressed with how quickly it starts up and handles apps, even when switching between assignments, streaming, and casual web browsing. It’s been a reliable companion so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value, run smooth and looks cool!

I've been daily using it and I'm loving it. This laptop handles everything smooth without any lag even with multiple apps and multiple tabs open. I regularly have 20+ chrome tabs open along with other apps like teams, slack, Illustrator, etc and it just keeps running smooth. The design looks slick, nice and thin with metal finish. To be honest it feels way more expensive than it is.Battery lasts me through most of the workday, its decent, around 5~6 hours working without charging.Overall its a great pick if you don't want to spend too much and need a powerful laptop.
