2.0 out of 5 stars Keyboard, F8-F12 top row keys, get SUPER HOT to touch!
By chugc
Bought 2021 model of LG Gram 17 b/c of its faster (2.8GHz) 11th gen Intel microchip & 2 TB of SDD. (Faster than the 2020 model I had w/1.6Ghz 10th gen chip & 512GB SDD) The 2021 LG Gram arrived 6/24, installed & tested it 6/26 by browsing websites and typing a few email's. Noticed the keyboard on 2021 unit WAS VERY WARM at the LETTER keys, then INCREASINGLY HOTTER going up on the keyboard towards the row of Function keys, AND SUPER HOT (like hot water "hot") to touch directly above F8-F9-F10-F11-F12-PRTSc-Insert-Delete keys! The metallic area above these F-keys to the fold between monitor and "keyboard" was SUPER HOT. The underside of the laptop under the F-keys also was SUPER HOT! (This doesn't happen on the 2020 LG Gram!)I called Amazon Product Support, who connected me to LG; LG agent told me keyboard getting super hot like this is NOT supposed to happen; that it was hardware defect and to either fix it or return for a replacement. Since I've only had the laptop for 2days, and am 1 day into the 30-day return period, I called Amazon 2nd time to ask for replacement. Will have to wait two wks for new replacement to come, so let's hope the keyboard, esp above F8-F12& PrtSc/Insert/Delete keys, getting super hot will not happen again!Lastly, Amazon said the 30day return policy starts from the date of when 1st unit was rec'd, not when 2nd unit will be rec'd. So, hope the replacement comes quickly so I can test it asap!Really disappointed since I really like the LG GRam 17 b/c it's the lightest laptop (2.9 lbs) with a 17inch screen!

1.0 out of 5 stars Bluetooth mouse hesitates.
By Tom Hoots
Somewhere on Amazon, I have a similar review to this about the current LG Gram 17 model -- "I returned it because I couldn't use a Bluetooth mouse." All because "it hesitates," almost constantly. The best way to describe this is that, every second or two, it's like the Bluetooth connection drops, and so quite often, I could move the mouse, and some time after I made that motion, the mouse would actually move. Or, I might click on something, and then a split-second later, that "click" would actually happen, on-screen.And I'm sorry, but my usage for this computer would be almost entirely as a "desktop replacement," and I would be using a mouse virtually all the time. And this is way too much money to spend while putting up with a mouse that would frustrate me out of my mind, every time I use it. And no, I'm not going to go back to using a wired mouse, or even a USB mouse -- again, "this is way too much money to spend while putting up with a kludge to get around a mouse that doesn't work right."I returned one and decided to wait for a few months, then try again. Well, it has been ten months, and I wanted to stick with Windows 10, so I figured I'd better give it another try, now. And quite obviously, nothing within the Bluetooth system has changed for the better. Once again, I tried about half a dozen different mice, from different manufacturers, and "it wasn't the mouse I was using." It was the Bluetooth connection that wasn't working properly.I currently have more than half a dozen different notebook computers, including a previous-generation LG Gram 17 and a previous-generation LG Gram 14, and every one of these computers work flawlessly with the mice I've tried on the two "new" LG Gram 17 notebook I have tried and returned. This just doesn't work right, and I won't put up with it.And as I stated in my last review, "otherwise, this is truly the only notebook computer I want." I have 13-inch notebook computers that are HEAVIER than this 17-inch LG Gram. I want all of the hard drive space that LG has packed into this notebook computer. I want at least 16 gigabytes of RAM, which this has. I consider the screen to be among the best that money can buy. I'm entirely happy with the keyboard and the form factor. I don't see any other 17-inch notebook computers I would even consider purchasing. So, "I recommend the LG Gram series highly." I just haven't been able to find one of the current-generation models to work with a Bluetooth mouse, without experiencing the kind of hesitation I have described above. So, "I will do without."

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the manufacturer's box opened for this configuration, and if so, why?
Yes, the original seal is opened. This is done specifically to upgrade and test the components to meet the advertised specifications, which include 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 2TB SSD installed in this unit.
What is the actual base clock speed of the Intel Ultra 7 processor in this model?
The processor has a base clock speed of 2.2 GHz, capable of boosting up to 5.1 GHz. The marketing mentions 'up to 4.8GHz' for AI tasks, but the technical specification lists the maximum turbo frequency as 5.1GHz.
How many and what type of USB ports does this laptop have?
It has a comprehensive set of ports: two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-C 4 ports, two USB-A 3.2 ports, one HDMI 2.1 port, one microSD card reader, and two DisplayPort outputs (likely via the USB-C/Thunderbolt ports).
Is the RAM soldered or upgradeable, and what is its exact type?
The RAM is 32GB of LPDDR5X memory. Given this is a thin-and-light Gram model, the RAM is almost certainly soldered to the motherboard and not user-upgradeable after purchase.
What is the weight and thickness of this specific 17-inch configuration?
This laptop weighs 3.22 pounds (approximately 1.46 kg) and has a thickness of 0.74 inches (approximately 18.8 mm), maintaining its lightweight design despite the large 17-inch screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for everyday use and casual gaming

As someone who enjoys gaming and often juggles multiple tasks, this laptop has been a great fit for my needs. The large Full screen really stands out. it makes watching videos and playing games feel immersive and smooth. Also, impressed with how quickly it starts up and handles apps, even when switching between assignments, streaming, and casual web browsing. It’s been a reliable companion so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value, run smooth and looks cool!

I've been daily using it and I'm loving it. This laptop handles everything smooth without any lag even with multiple apps and multiple tabs open. I regularly have 20+ chrome tabs open along with other apps like teams, slack, Illustrator, etc and it just keeps running smooth. The design looks slick, nice and thin with metal finish. To be honest it feels way more expensive than it is.Battery lasts me through most of the workday, its decent, around 5~6 hours working without charging.Overall its a great pick if you don't want to spend too much and need a powerful laptop.
