3.0 out of 5 stars Super light as always, but not for power users
By Andrew
Note that as of Aug 26, the description says it's an i7, that is wrong, this is the i5-1240P.Pros:-Like it always has been, it is very light, easy to carry around.-The display panel is really clear with that high res, and colors look great. It is only 350nits, but still usable in lighter rooms.-Decent battery life, 80Wh is good for a handful of hours with mixed use.-Good IO, but I wish the USB-C's were on both sides for switchable power cord placement. Wish it had ethernet too. I do need that occasionally so I'll have to get a dongle now.-Iris Xe graphics are a big step above previous gen UHD 630 graphics on my current Lenovo it's replacing. Good H.264 encode speeds. Was getting above 100fps rendering 1080p using QSV.- Uses the OEM version of the Sam 980 Pro SSD. Pretty fast sequential 6553/4692, but less impressive random 321/255 on crystal disk mark.-Extra M.2 slot for secondary SSD, but cover is a pain to remove.Cons:-RUNS HOT, like very hot when doing anything. When doing a test render, a small section of the bottom cover gets too hot to touch, I think it's where the heat pipe is basically touching the casing.-Thermal throttles in an instant. Even just heavy web browsing will hit the 90c throttle limit after just a few seconds, this is with the laptop on the more aggressive "performance" fan mode. Also hits the CPU amperage limit constantly according to HWinfo, even when not doing anything.-Screen wobble. light shaking will make the screen wobble a lot.-Soldered RAM with no SODIMM slots, make sure 16Gb is enough.-Speakers are really muddy, not abnormally bad for a thin & light, but watching videos can be hard to hear. I know they're trying to keep it light, but just a tiny bit more would go such a long way here.Overall it's a great workstation oriented laptop that will give you good short bursts of speed loading a PDF or word doc, but I've never seen the P-cores boost above 4GHz, even for an instant. The amp limit kicks in before it can get to the theoretical 4.4GHz max. *EDIT* It does hit 4.39 for a few seconds before throttling, but it is easy to miss.If you're not a power user, but mostly do office or moderate photo editing, this is a good choice, otherwise I hesitate to recommend.A few more grams of heatsinking and fins would go really far to make this perfect.

great laptop for the price. The 16GB RAM and 512GB ssd provide smooth performance and the 180° hinge is a nice touch. Windows 11 runs well, and the sleek Silver Gray design looks premium. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocky setup, but end result was worth it

The media could not be loaded. When I first booted this laptop up, it presented me with a "defaultuser0" account that I didn't know the password to. I completely wiped this laptop's SSD and reinstalled Windows to play it safe, and after that it worked like a charm with regular setup. I did have to find drivers online for the touchpad afterward though.Getting at the SSD to do all of this was thankfully pretty easy, since the bottom panel was removable with a few tiny screws. I noticed that there is only a single slot for RAM in there, but it isn't soldered on so I was able to upgrade it with a 16 gig stick at least. The N97 is no gaming powerhouse but it plays some older titles still, and the laptop works great for work like emails and browsing the internet.
