5.0 out of 5 stars A Great ThinkPad at a Great Price!
By Zavhgde2323
Was able to get this on massive discount and I have to say this has to be the best ThinkPad I've owned since Lenovo has been aggressively removing key features that made ThinkPads stand out from their competition in their apparent quest for mediocrity.Coming from a T14s Gen 3 AMD, I can safely say the typing experience is WAY BETTER. The T14s Gen 3 keyboard (at least mine) required more actuation force and bottomed out harder than this P14s Gen 4. As a result, the P14s Gen 4 keyboard is more reminiscent of the older ThinkPads in its fluidity for touch typists. It still has the newer 1.5 mm key travel like the T14s Gen 3, but these subtle differences provide a noticeable improvement in quality of life if you do a lot of typing, but be aware that Lenovo sources their panels and keyboards from different suppliers, so I may have just got lucky in the keyboard lottery. In terms of build quality, I actually prefer the P14s over the T14s. The materials might not be as premium as the T14s, but this laptop looks identical, is just as sturdy, however is WAY MORE resistant to fingerprints and oils from your hand. It is light years more resistant than the T14s gen 3!!The display is OLED and I wish it wasn't. Would have preferred an IPS equivalent because it would have offered better battery life and I wouldn't have to worry about OLED burn-in.And the dirty secret about OLEDS is that they really don't look that much different from premium IPS displays when calibrated. They may have deeper blacks and higher contrasting, but any Delta E color accuracy score under 3 isn't detectable to the human eye and my previous wide-gamut IPS display had a Delta E score of 0.14 - so I may swap out this OLED for that panel to get better battery life and mitigate any potential burn-in down the road.Other positives to note:-The AMD processor and igpu is top level. The 780M is on par with an RTX1650ti and the AMD processor is super efficient, sips power, and doesn't get hot. You'll rarely if ever hear your fans spin up.-64 GB of fast soldered ram is big win and rarity in a 14" laptop.-RJ-45 ethernet jack

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Thinkpad
By Arian
Lots needs to be said about this thinkpad, but I'll try to sum it up in this list of pros and cons. These are oriented towards my workflow, and may not reflect yours.Pros:- Linux compatibility is 100%. Fingerprint, keyboard backlight, wifi drivers, and almost everything else works OOTB. If you use Linux, this is a good choice. BSDs were a bit iffy.- Ram speed and amount are more than enough. This is the big distinguishing factor between P14s and T14. The highest I got to wsa 48G of usage when running language models locally, and the performance was mind blowing.- CPU is fantastic. The power draw can vary, and the clock can go up to 5.1Ghz on all 8c/16t. There are modern instructions (i.e. AVX512), so if you use programs that can take advantage of those, you'll enjoy the 7840u.Cons:- Fan can get loud. I still haven't opened up the chassis to see why that's the case, but it is noticeable at times, especially when maxing out all the CPU cores.- Battery life is mediocre. The OLED display is great for nighttime use, but if you're looking at white screens at god knows how many nits, you will see the battery go down very fast. Idle usage (again, not on Windows) doesn't seem to affect the battery, gladly.- Speakers are very quiet. When put side-by-side by my Steam Deck, it can barely reach 70% of that.
