5.0 out of 5 stars Not 100% Happy, But Still an Excellent Computer
By George Rhoads
Setup was different, but not difficult. The computer starts up fast and the facial recognition is outstanding. From power on, I am ready to go in 15 seconds.I have had a problem registering the computer with HP. HP keeps telling me that the product number is invalid, even though the number I have used is the same number their software detects and the number I found in the BIOS and on the box. HP has several different ways to enter the registration process and at least two different processes. I have used both and one said the process was successful and they would send me a confirmation email. I never received the email, but I did get a screen copy of the success message. Last night a HP notification popped up offering to do a warranty check, and it told me the warranty expires February 4, 2025. That is awfully soon for a computer purchased November 15, 2024.Beyond this, the computer is exactly as represented. The screen is vivid, and I was immediately impressed. I do use an external monitor as my main screen. The monitor has a higher resolution than the laptop's screen, but so far, the computer will not allow me to use the monitor at that higher resolution. My prior, 3-year-old HP laptop did support the higher resolution. I am sure I can resolve this issue if I can ever find a way to speak to a live person at HP, but I just don't have time for that right now.Overall, I am a happy camper.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the best experience!
By John
Why not 3 stars or higher?Because the issue remains unresolved, the laptop is unreliable, and the seller has provided no meaningful resolution beyond repeated repair requests at the customer’s expense.Title: Unreliable laptop and very limited support from sellerI purchased an HP laptop from Empower PC, and unfortunately it has proven to be unreliable. The laptop intermittently fails to power on at all—sometimes it works normally, and other times pressing the power button results in no response. For a laptop, this is a serious issue. The bigger problem has been the seller’s handling of the situation. HP Support informed me that the manufacturer warranty would not be honored due to hardware changes made prior to sale and directed me to work with the seller. Empower PC stated they are an authorized HP reseller and asked me to ship the laptop to them for evaluation, which I did at my own expense after backing up my data.I was without the laptop for several weeks, and Empower PC ultimately said they could not reproduce the issue and returned it without any fix. The same problem occurred again after I got it back. When I requested a refund or replacement due to the ongoing defect, they declined, citing the 30-day return window.Since then, the only option offered has been additional repair attempts—again requiring shipping at my expense—and requests for video proof of an intermittent failure. While responses have been polite, there has been no practical resolution, and the burden continues to fall entirely on the customer(Me).For a significant purchase like a laptop, reliability and meaningful support matter. Based on my experience, buying from Empower PC can result in a frustrating process if something goes wrong.Update-The Update: I have since received written confirmation from HP that materially changes this situation.HP confirmed that Empower PC modified the laptop prior to sale by installing memory and storage that exceed what this laptop model is designed to support. Because of these unsupported upgrades, HP stated that the manufacturer warranty is void and that HP will not repair or replace the unit under any circumstances. This explains why repeated repair attempts and warranty discussions have gone nowhere. The laptop was sold in a configuration that cannot be supported by the manufacturer, and the seller has declined refund or replacement while continuing to place the burden on the customer.HP also indicated that Amazon has accountability in monitoring marketplace sellers to ensure products sold under the Amazon brand meet manufacturer specifications and warranty requirements.Between the unreliable laptop and the lack of meaningful resolution from the seller, this has been an extremely frustrating experience. Buyers should be aware that purchasing from this seller can result in owning a product that is unsupported by the manufacturer with little recourse if something goes wrong.Final Update: Amazon declined my A-to-Z claim, stating the item matched its description. However, HP confirmed the seller-installed configuration voided the manufacturer warranty, and the seller refused a refund. Buyers should understand that purchasing a modified laptop from this seller may leave them without manufacturer support or recourse if issues arise.
