3.0 out of 5 stars Basic starter laptop with some quirks and fixes needed
By Mk B.
At this price point you're getting a brand new but basic starter laptop for not a bad price but you can find better deals around Christmas right now if you look around. This is basically an entry level intel N95, fanless laptop so it's quiet but not especially powerful (you wont be doing much gaming with this but it's fine for web browsing, watching videos, teleconferencing, etc.).Keep expectations reasonable though.Pros:- no online windows account needed during setup! Thank you!-full size keyboard with numpad- adequate screen size- quick boot up speed- good storage capacity 1TB ssd- not much bloatware AND comes with Microsoft Office LTSC Professional Plus 2024 (this is GREAT perpetual license version like you used to be able to buy in the Good Old Days and you can still use it with your cloud account if want and you login that way)- win11 but without the need for a windows email account (so this was a custom install).- quick login and the fingerprint scanner works quickly and easily- thin and relatively lightCons:- i'm a touch typist and the middle of the keyboard is a little more flexible than I would like but it's okay- hard to tell if the camera privacy shutter slider is closed- wifi speed was consistently about 1/2 the speed my other laptop sitting right next to it (using speedtest).- NOTE: the edge browser contained some preinstalled search forwarding extension that would send any browser search through "shopsurfonline.co" (nonexistant domain) and then onto yahoo.com search. I removed this easily in edge setting but not a great thing to find on an otherwise clean, new install. Basically this unknown extension had full permissions for just about anything you do on the computer. Does make me wonder about anything else that might be there but I'm not using this for critical stuff so no reason to wipe the drive and start over with it. (photo included 'Installed extensions')- there is no 'official' windows11 sticker with serial number that I could find so make sure you backup your initial configuration to reinstall if needed- biggest drawback..... WOW it took me DAYS to get windows 11 updated to the latest security and windows version updates.First off due to the computer setting that windows update was paused until 2041 (!?), and then mainly due to stalled update (KB5066131) at 3.5 GB in size. I could not get this to install even after restarts so had to manually download from MS site and manually install it, kill the stalled process in task mgr and it still took 2 days to get it sorted out. Then came getting the windows defender updates configured since it was mostly 'off' in default. That said, eventually I did get it fully current and it is updating with new stuff as expected but I think most people who buy a laptop at this price bracket arent expecting to have to do all this stuff right at the start of their ownership experience.Other:Not a bad computer at all and some nice unexpected surprises (like the full MS Office suite in perpetuity) and not having to create an online account to setup the computer (big + for me!).As far as performance it's going to be very basic but it has the microSD slot and 3 USB ports along with a large internal ssd drive so for typical browsing, watching vids and office type tasks it's totally fine for that.2 stars knocked off for the difficulty in getting the windows updates installed and the weird search hijack extension in edge that was already installed with all kinds of privileges. This is definitely not the kind of thing you want to hand over to grandma and expect to not be providing tech support in the future.

great laptop for the price. The 16GB RAM and 512GB ssd provide smooth performance and the 180° hinge is a nice touch. Windows 11 runs well, and the sleek Silver Gray design looks premium. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocky setup, but end result was worth it

The media could not be loaded. When I first booted this laptop up, it presented me with a "defaultuser0" account that I didn't know the password to. I completely wiped this laptop's SSD and reinstalled Windows to play it safe, and after that it worked like a charm with regular setup. I did have to find drivers online for the touchpad afterward though.Getting at the SSD to do all of this was thankfully pretty easy, since the bottom panel was removable with a few tiny screws. I noticed that there is only a single slot for RAM in there, but it isn't soldered on so I was able to upgrade it with a 16 gig stick at least. The N97 is no gaming powerhouse but it plays some older titles still, and the laptop works great for work like emails and browsing the internet.
