4.0 out of 5 stars ASUS FanBoi - It's fine with realistic expectations.
By Mr. E. Manne
Got the Win11pro 16GB+512GB version. Paid $550USD in August 2025. I have only had it a couple of days/nights. I will be traveling with it for 2 weeks in Sept. I will return and mention anything I may miss, here.Big ASUS fanboi. (Taiwan is a [great] country.) Love these things for basic productivity while traveling. Music and video production, mostly. Not high-end stuff on this sort of laptop, but you can do a lot, really. I do some sound design/processing and basic artwork and video clip processing. I mean, it'll run FL Studio if you wanted to make a beat. I've installed and run it a bit. I'll eventually see how many VSTs are going to work until I have to tweak buffer times. I don't think it is going to have much issue with stock plugins. Also, some light code development and often some major stock trading (via ThinkOrSwim, which can be a resource-hungry app). This machine handles everything I want to do just fine. This gets one star off immediately for:"Extras Included:45W AC Adapter.32GB USB Drive."NO USB DRIVE in the box! They used a cheap, thin UPS box that had no padding at all, so the laptop box was loose inside, and the edges of the UPS box lids lifted. They likely shoved it into the box and it's gone. This should have been cheaper. Also, they claim "All-Day Battery" but in the same sentence, "6-hours". Hehheh. What planet is that? But, it's all good. I do not take planes. I am always near an outlet. You are just going to get shorter life on a Core i5. No way around that. The trade is for processing power, though. Worth it. Just know that it's a proprietary power adapter. All my ASUSes have these. They are small and work fine.No backlit keyboard, but I tend to travel with a clip-on LED reading light with red tailight tape over it to get me a nice, reddish-amber glow. Aim that at the keyboard, and good to go.I am not watching movies or playing games on it. The speakers would not be great for this, I think. I also carry portable bassy speaker with a line-in. So, for sound design, I'm good with the headphone jack. But, if you will be doing movies and gaming, you'll need to bring your own speaker along. The internal speakers will not carry well across a room or anything. Barely loud enough at 100% and sitting in front of it. I am older with blown out ears from the music industry, though. Grain of salt.So far, there do not seem to be like any audio noise issues due to poorly routed audio cabling around cooling fans or anything. (Lookin' at you, HP. Ahem.)I have seen videos on how "easy" it is to unscrew the back and swap out NVME and add another SODIMM ram stick. Not going to bother on this one, but it's probably good to mention. If I tweak it too well, I'd try pushing it more, and it'd just run hotter. That's not my bag, for this particular machine. If the seller would like to refund me $50 or so for the missing USB drive, I'll return and add the 5th star. If you see this review with 5/5, then ya know they listen and did right.

great laptop for the price. The 16GB RAM and 512GB ssd provide smooth performance and the 180° hinge is a nice touch. Windows 11 runs well, and the sleek Silver Gray design looks premium. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocky setup, but end result was worth it

The media could not be loaded. When I first booted this laptop up, it presented me with a "defaultuser0" account that I didn't know the password to. I completely wiped this laptop's SSD and reinstalled Windows to play it safe, and after that it worked like a charm with regular setup. I did have to find drivers online for the touchpad afterward though.Getting at the SSD to do all of this was thankfully pretty easy, since the bottom panel was removable with a few tiny screws. I noticed that there is only a single slot for RAM in there, but it isn't soldered on so I was able to upgrade it with a 16 gig stick at least. The N97 is no gaming powerhouse but it plays some older titles still, and the laptop works great for work like emails and browsing the internet.
