1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
By Damian Xiong
If you can, avoid this Nitro V 15. It might have a rtx 5050 laptop GPU and a decent processor (that's unstable) but personally, it's pretty disappointing. I'm debating on if I should return it after having it for a few hours. The first thing I noticed with this laptop is that it has a major ghosting problem, I'm not sure why Acer chose this specific screen panel but they could have done a lot better. Speaking of Acer having the ability to do better but not, I'm not sure why they would pair a rtx 5050 with ddr4 sodimm ram. This Nitro V 15 is limited to using ddr4 sodimm ram that at most runs at 3200 mt/s. And it only comes with one stick of 16g ddr4 ram meaning it's single channel out the box. I could definitely feel the system struggling with multitasking as I was setting up the laptop, you'll feel this too if you aren't going to get a second stick of ram. And speaking of ram, the ram prices right now are inflated, I'd spend that extra $60-$100 you would have spend on a second stick of ram towards a better laptop. Also if you want 1tb of storage or more, you'll have to buy that along with the extra ram stick and laptop, installing the ram and new m.2 SSD before using the laptop because it doesn't have an extra m.2 slot. There's no way you can upgrade your storage conveniently in the future without spending more money than you need. My last gripe with this laptop is that there is definitely system instability when gaming on it, the first game I fired up on this laptop, it crashed and froze on me, prompting me to fully shutdown. If for some reason, you want to spend the $700 plus tax (I paid $60 in taxes), $60-$100 on extra ram, and $100+ on a decent 1tb m.2 SSD, go ahead and throw your money away.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only buy when on sale
By Gvaz The First
I haven't had a laptop in a *long* time and I saw this one on sale, especially with a 5050 (I used to have a desktop with a 3070, so I'm pretty impressed with how strong this laptop 5050 is, given my lack of experience with laptops)For the sale price I paid, I think it's a decent value. The screen is fine (165hz is better than the 144hz 27" LG I had, technically, but high hertz for a screen I find is more of a marketing gimmick and not worth the increase in costs)The speakers are OK. The fans I question being good enough, they are small fans that probably aren't designed for static pressure. The issue at hand here, more importantly, is how LOUD they are. Like, if you run them on turbo settings in NitroSense, which I would argue is required because the i5-13420H is not very powerful, they sound like a jet engine. The 13420H is seemingly about the same as a 5600x I had before in some situations (21% weaker), and the 5050 is a little less powerful than the 3070 I had before (30% or so weaker). That being said, the performance of this combination is pretty good at 1080p, but I don't think if you were to hook up an external 1440p or 4k monitor, that this hardware would be strong enough, I had one with my 5600x/3070 and it *struggled* at 1440p, much less with 4k. I'm pretty spoiled by large screens, so going to a 15.6" is serviceable but a struggle. The weight of the laptop is fine, portable enough for my needs. The battery life is bad, even though it has an upgraded battery in this version, with the drawback that it eats up another m.2 slot on the board. Since I'm hardly ever going to have this not plugged in 100% of the time, it doesn't mean much to me anyways, I would have rather had a smaller battery and the extra m.2 slot, or a thicker laptop to counteract it. But you aren't going to be gaming on battery anyways so it doesn't really matter to me.On that note, the overall speed of the M.2 is kinda mid anyways. It comes with A-Data ram (single 16gb stick) and I *think* a WD nvme, but 512gb of storage is miserable for gaming, so I ripped that out and put a 2TB in (would have put more if I could afford it) and another 16gb stick of ram, because windows 11 is such a ram hog. I miss the days when an OS's job was to facilitate the programs running on top of it. When will we get a lightweight OS? The OS should not get in the way of performance of the system. Most of these apps are developed for win11, so if you install win10, you are not going to get Nitrosense, which...is fine, if you are able to find a way to get a good fan profile setup going, and a way to do a low-overclock of the gpu/cpu outside of that, I wasn't able to. When tested, the performance was marginally better on Win10, after stripping down win11 to only the bare essentials. I can say I'm not entirely a fan of CPU's having built-in GPUs, because the automatic switching between CPU and discrete GPU is really bad. If I'm running firefox and watching youtube or browsing forums, use the CPU, otherwise all other situations just use the GPU. You can manually assign per .exe file, but it's so clunky.I wish I could change the color of the backlit of the keys, and I am debating taking the heatsink off and re-applying all new thermal paste, and getting one of those gimmicky laptop fans (exhaust isn't on the bottom, it's intake, exhaust is near the right side and near the monitor screen, which means the plastic panel on the bottom right is going to eventually warp and crack where the exhaust just blows on the monitor after a few years...not great. Might be a better idea to use this laptop with the lid closed, to a 27" 1080p external monitor and hook up a mechanical keyboard and mouse instead, so the exhaust goes out, instead of against the screen, and you can prop it up so it gets a lot of airflow, because I've seen in nitrosense this can hover at around 80C when gaming a particularly graphically demanding game.Get it for cheap, don't get it for MSRP, and don't have high standards for what you're paying for. Going from Desktop w/ watercooling to this is a bit of a shock.

great laptop for the price. The 16GB RAM and 512GB ssd provide smooth performance and the 180° hinge is a nice touch. Windows 11 runs well, and the sleek Silver Gray design looks premium. Highly recommend!
